History and organization
The grammar school was founded in 1999 on the former company premises of the Spinnerei & Weberei Paul Bendix and continues to use the listed buildings of the spinning mill after the redesign according to plans by Josef Paul Kleihues . For the school year 2008/09 the open all day was introduced. Under the G8 schooling, there are 2 binding campus days until 4 p.m. From the 2017/18 school year, the school decided to gradually return to the lead decision G9, under which there will no longer be mandatory afternoon classes for lower secondary level in grades 5 and 6 in open all-day classes. The AvDHG orients its educational and technical work on the motto "Socially strong - professionally fit". In addition to well-founded professional training in cooperation with various cooperation partners from the region (e.g. WWU Münster, companies, research institutions, newspapers, sports clubs, music schools ...), emphasis is placed on social awareness within the school community and across generations with local partners ( e.g. family education center, care facilities ...). A distinction as the first MINT-EC school in Dülmen has set special accents , a title that enables special promotion and recognition of achievements in the natural sciences. Special course models are literature courses that organize theater performances every year and project courses that students can select as special offers in the fields of natural sciences or art / design in order to work individually and independently.
For foreign language lessons, authentic speech contacts are maintained for the students in the target country. There are trips to England, France and Italy. As part of the participation in the “Encounter with Eastern Europe” competition, which has been maintained for more than 10 years, schoolchildren go to Polish host families and take in their partners in Dülmen. The languages are also maintained with offers for language certificates Cambridge (English), DELF (French) and CELI (Italian).
The students' careers are accompanied by a wide range of courses and career choices.
