MINT-EC certificate
The MINT-EC certificate is an award from the German Association of Mathematical and Scientific Excellence Centers at Schools (MINT-EC for short). With the certificate, MINT-EC certifies outstanding achievements of students in mathematical and scientific fields.

The MINT-EC certificate is awarded as an award to high school graduates who have committed themselves to normal math and science lessons throughout their entire school career . Pupils who want to acquire the MINT-EC certificate must have demonstrated their professional competence and their specialist work, and they must have stood out from the crowd through additional extracurricular MINT activities.
Obtaining the certificate
In order to obtain the MINT-EC certificate, different levels (1 to 3) must be achieved in three different requirement fields.
The first requirement field is professional competence. The pupils must have chosen either two advanced courses in the MINT area, or two basic and one advanced course in this. If the grade point average is higher than 9 grade points, the lowest level (“with success”) is achieved in this area. From an average of more than 11 grade points, even a higher level (“with particular success”) can be achieved. Very good achievements with an average grade of more than 13 grade points are rewarded with the highest level (“with distinction”).
The second requirement field is scientific work in the upper secondary level . The three different levels can be achieved with specialist work or special learning achievements, depending on the grade points, also analogous to the first requirement field. Participation in the Jugend forscht competition in this area can also be counted as scientific work.
Finally, the students have to get involved in the third requirement field, the additional MINT activities. So-called MINT points can be earned through separate activities. From 40 points, level 1 is achieved. The second level can be achieved with 60 points and the third with 80 points.
The MINT-EC certificate, which is also divided into the above three levels, is awarded depending on the levels of the requirement fields.
Advantages of the MINT-EC certificate
The MINT-EC certificate offers colleges and universities a classification of student performance independent of the school systems of the federal states .
