Annibale Maria Di Francia (born July 5, 1851 in Messina , Italy, † June 1, 1927 in Messina) was an Italian priest, religious founder and saint .

Life

Annibale, whose father died when he was a little over a year old, entered the Cistercian College at the age of seven and was ordained a priest in 1878. He then devoted himself to the people in the poor district of "Avignone" on the outskirts of Messina and in 1882 founded an orphanage. In 1887 he founded the "Congregation of the Heart of Jesus" and in 1897 the order of the " Rogationists ", which in 1926 was recognized by the Pope. Today both religious communities are united in the "Congregation of the Daughters of the Heart of Jesus and the Rogationists".

Annibale was by Pope John Paul II. In 1990 beatified and in 2004 canonized . His feast day in the liturgy is June 1st .
