Narcisa de Jesús Martillo Morán (born October 29, 1832 in Nobol , Ecuador , † December 8, 1869 in Lima , Peru ) was an Ecuadorian virgin . She is venerated as a saint in the Catholic Church .

Life

After the untimely death of her parents in 1852, Narcisa moved to Guayaquil and worked as a seamstress to support her siblings financially. At the same time, she took care of the needy, the sick and children with great devotion. From 1868 she lived in a Dominican monastery in Lima without having taken a vow there . Narcisa spent eight hours a day in prayer and solitude, and another four hours in mortification . She fasted very severely and was often seen in a state of ecstasy.

Beatification and Canonization

Narcisa was beatified by Pope John Paul II in 1992 and by Pope Benedict XVI. Canonized in 2008 . Her memorial day in the liturgy is December 8th .
