Johanna Maria Gertruida (Annie) Schreijer-Pierik (born February 17, 1953 in Diepenheim ) is a Dutch farmer and politician. She has been a member of the European Parliament for the Dutch Christian Democratisch Appèl (CDA) since July 2014 . Before that, she worked in the Dutch parliament from 1998 to 2010 .

Political career

Her political career began in 1991 as a member of the Delden City Council and from 1995 to 1998 she was a member of the Provincial Council of Overijssel Province . In 1998 Schreijer-Pierik was elected to the Dutch parliament with 17,422 preferential votes , where she was chairman of the standing committee on agriculture, nature and food quality from 2004 to 2008. On June 16, 2010, her last day as a member of the Dutch Parliament, she was made Knight of the Order of Orange-Nassau on behalf of the Queen .

Schreijer-Pierik has made a significant contribution to the cultural and economic strengthening of the Twente region , whereupon the CDA Overijssel proposed the Dutch MEP as a candidate for the European Parliament on January 7, 2014. In the election on May 22, 2014, she was 25th on the list of candidates and was elected with 113,123 preferential votes. On July 1, she officially took office as a member of the European Parliament.

Personally

Schreijer-Pierik has been married since 1974, has three children and is a member of the Roman Catholic Church. She lives with her family in Hengevelde , where she runs a farm with pigs .
