Annika Schleu (born April 3, 1990 in Berlin ) is a modern pentathlete from Germany . Her greatest successes are 4th place at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio and winning the 2011 World Cup in the team and 2012, 2016 and 2017 in the relay.

Sporty vita

Schleu started her pentathlon career at the age of 10 and starts today for TSV Spandau. In 2005, at the age of 15, she took part in international championships for the first time and was already successful there with 7th place in the Youth B European Championship and 15th place in the Youth A World Championship. Schleu celebrated the greatest success of her youth career in 2008 at the European Junior Championships in Poland when she won the silver medal in the individual finals. A year later followed the bronze medal in the relay at the EM in Bulgaria .

In the 2010 season Schleu celebrates her debut in the adult division and was able to qualify for the finals of the best 36 and thus also for the German World Cup team at their first two World Cups in Medway and Berlin. She was 13th in the individual in Chengdu and won the bronze medal in the team competition together with Lena Schöneborn and Eva Trautmann . Annika Schleu achieved her international breakthrough in the 2011 season when she again made it onto the podium in a World Cup for the first time in Chengdu with third place. At the World Championships in Moscow she had a significant share in the gold medal of the German team with her 9th place, again together with Schöneborn and Trautmann. In the same line-up, Schleu and her teammates also won the silver medal at the European Championships in Medway.

In the 2012 Olympic year Schleu took part in all World Cups of the season for the first time and achieved sixth place as the best place at the fourth station in Rostov. At the World Championships in Rome she prevailed in the relay together with Schöneborn and Janine Kohlmann ahead of the People's Republic of China and Great Britain . Schleu then collected important points for the Olympic qualification with 13th place. She made this perfect when she was again very successful in Chengdu and finished 4th at the World Cup final. Thanks to her world ranking position, Schleu qualified as the second German for the games alongside defending champion Lena Schöneborn. In July 2012 Schleu was ranked ninth in the world and therefore among the top ten for the first time.

The Olympic Games were disappointing for Schleu, she only takes 26th place. Schleu became German champion for the first time in Berlin in October 2012.

In the current Olympics , Annika Schleu has further established herself in the German national team, was a regular part of the World Cup team and was able to qualify for all major events. In 2014 Schleu won the gold medal at the team's European championships, again together with Lena Schöneborn and Janine Kohlmann. With second place at the Kremlim Cup in Russia, she also celebrated a great success in an individual competition in the same year.

In 2015 Schleu was nominated for the German team at the World Cup in Berlin from June 29th to July 5th.
