History of the Anningerhaus

The Association of Friends of Nature in Mödling from 1877 built a shelter hut at the Buchbrunnen in 1878 , from which the first Anningerhaus, opened in 1893, emerged through expansion and expansion. This structure was significantly enlarged three times, the last time in 1905.

On October 30, 1910 the house, a wooden building with cork stone walls, burned down to the foundation walls, probably as a result of an improperly connected (two rooms heating) stove or a lack of extinguishing water; today only the fountain socket can be seen.

After the construction and use of an emergency hut , after various, sometimes controversial actions to secure funding and the invitation to tender for a planning competition, the Kaisergerndlhaus was built in 1911/1912 at its current location by the Eschenbrunnen , on a plot of the Heiligenkreuz Abbey , and on July 20, 1912 opened.

During the First World War the control room was used as a military observation post, so that the shelter was not usable during this time. After the war, however, the telephone lines laid for the intelligence service could still be used.

In 1945 this house also burned down in the last days of the war. Today's Anningerhaus was not rebuilt until 1959.
