Another Code: Double Memory ( Japanese ア ナ ザ ー コ ー ド 2 つ の 記憶 ; Anazā Kōdo: Futatsu no Kioku ) is a point-and-click adventure game for the Nintendo DS that was developed by CING and distributed by Nintendo . In the US, the game was released under the name Trace Memory . In 2009 a successor to the Nintendo Wii was released.

action

Ashley Mizuki Robins is a young girl. She is about to turn fourteen when she receives a package from her father, who was believed to be dead. It contains a letter inviting her to Blood Edward Island and a device that she initially does not understand, the Dual Another System (DAS), which can only be operated by her due to a biometric scanner and has various functions. Accompanied by her aunt Jessica, she goes to this island. Jessica raised Ashley and made her believe that her father had died, but the letter casts solid doubt on that.

After a short time, the boat reaches the island, and Jessica sets out to find Ashley's father when he is not on the pier. But not only this one has disappeared, Jessica is not coming back either, which is why Ashley decides to go looking for them. While exploring the island, she becomes friends with D, the ghost of a little boy. He has lost his memories, but Ashley remembers something and so she decides to expand her search for her father and Jessica to include the search for D's memories.

Characters

Ashley Mizuki Robins

She is the main character. On the day before her 14th birthday, she received a letter from her father, who was believed to be dead. Her mother also died a long time ago, so she was raised by her aunt Jessica.

D.

D is the ghost of a boy about the same age as Ashley, who died over 57 years ago. He has lost his memories and goes looking for them with his new girlfriend.

Jessica

Jessica has been looking after her since Ashley was three years old when her mother died and soon after her father disappeared too. She had to promise to see him as dead before his daughter. She is the sister of Ashley's father.

Richard Robins

He is Ashley's father and disappeared shortly after the death of his wife to do research on Another on Blood Edwards Island.

Bill Edward

Bill Edwards is probably the last descendant of the Edwards family. He is the sponsor of Richard Robin's research on the Another project and a former family friend.

places

  • The foothills of the island: This is where the island's small port is located and also the ship with which Jessica and Ashley were brought here.
  • The Main Island: The Edward family cemetery where Ashley met D and a gold mine that made the family so rich are located here. The villa is also located in the woods.
  • The villa: Main location of the plot, here you look for clues to Jessica and Ashley's father and at the same time try to help D to find his memories.

Game principle and technology

The player controls the young Ashley using the touch screen and tackles various puzzles. Background graphics, objects and figures that are currently being observed are displayed on the upper screen. On the lower screen, Ashley can be seen in game graphics together with the immediate surroundings from the top view. While playing, you mainly use the touchscreen to examine, throw or move objects, move puzzle pieces, wipe away dirt and the like. With the microphone you can blow away dust or breathe on windows to read messages. The DAS allows you to take photos and move these photos back and forth, rotate and stack them, read DAS cards with messages from Ashley's father and activate Another. In addition, you can only save your game status using the DAS.

The puzzles are generally easy to solve after a moment's thought. In addition, when looking at a puzzle, the characters usually give clues as to where a solution could be found.

The short playing time is particularly negative, playing times well under ten hours for the entire game are normal. In terms of action, that's correct, because the captain who brought Ashley and Jessica to the island had already mentioned at the beginning that he would only wait until evening.

The long-term motivation is very low, because after the first play through only tiny conditions change. In the Zoetrop puzzle, for example, a ninja instead of a bird hops through the picture after it has been played through for the first time. However, you can see more than one closing sequence at the end, depending on your behavior during the game.

In 2009, Another Code R: The Search for Hidden Memory was released, a follow-up to Nintendo Wii, which takes place three years after the first part and continues the story of the DAS and the death of Ashley's mother. In contrast to the first part, Another Code R was only published in Japan and Europe, but not in the USA and Australia.
