In the attack in Cizre on August 26, 2016, a suicide bomber blew himself up in front of the Turkish police in a truck loaded with explosives . The attacker and 11 police officers were killed and 78 people injured. Another police officer later died from his injuries in the hospital.

Course of events

The explosion occurred at a police checkpoint in Cizre , Şırnak province , around 50 meters from the buildings of the district police headquarters and the praesidium of the “Çevik Kuvvet”, a police stand-by force to contain riots . The three-story police headquarters were badly damaged by the force of the explosion and a material depot went up in flames.

The PKK assumed responsibility for the attack . She said the attack was carried out in retaliation against the prolonged isolation of Abdullah Ocalan .
