checkpoint
At one checkpoint ( Engl . Checkpoint ) are persons, things, events and / or specifications according to established criteria checked. Control can be carried out upon entry, passage or departure.
Control types and objectives
- Checks on persons or border controls : checking documents ( passports , ID cards , passes , entry tickets , other documents), checking for items carried (e.g. contraband , stolen goods , weapons , prohibited items), appropriate clothing or equipment, age control, physical control (e.g. health, physical aptitude), aptitude control according to specified guidelines, verification of membership of a specified group of people ( qualification , ethnic group , membership ), etc.
- Goods checks: quality inspection , customs inspection , etc.
- Time controls: sports competitions, limit values for time-critical processes
- Observations: natural events such as weather , climate , tectonics , water level (gauge) , currents
- Police or military checkpoint (people, property and vehicles)
- Statistical controls: registration of quantities, measurements, quality and classification in a time frame.

particularities
Since, according to the Western view , there was no border legitimized by international law on the border with the GDR , there was no “ border control post ” in official Western usage , but only one checkpoint, e.g. B. Checkpoint Alpha , Checkpoint Bravo and Checkpoint Charlie .
