A checkpoint , sometimes also called a checkpoint , is a fixed point on a traffic connection that is used to control passers-by, items and vehicles carried.

Checkpoints are particularly common in the military and the police.

Control posts in Germany

Four to around twenty soldiers or police officers are required to operate a checkpoint. It is often used in international peace missions. There are stationary checkpoints and so-called temporary checkpoints (CPT).

In 2000, the Kundl control point on the Inntal Autobahn A 12 was opened as the first control point in Austria .
On June 25, 2015, the sixth control point was put into operation in Tyrol alone.

Mobile checkpoints

There are also mobile checkpoints. So z. B. since October 2017 on so-called dosing days (according to the dosing calendar ) on the A 12 Inntal motorway in the area of the Kufstein / Kiefersfelden border crossing on Austrian territory at the "Kufstein Nord" junction in the direction of Innsbruck from the police truck - block handling at a specially equipped mobile Control body carried out.

The tasks of the control centers mainly include the control of trucks and buses with regard to compliance with the permitted maximum weights, social and road legal regulations, the technical condition of the vehicles and the correct declaration and labeling of dangerous goods transports. In the case of controls of heavy traffic but also of passenger traffic, there are additional alcohol controls and controls of the safety devices (seat belts, child safety devices).
