Anselme Polycarpe Batbie

Anselme Polycarpe Batbie (born May 31, 1828 in Seissan , † June 13, 1887 in Paris ) was a French jurist , university professor and politician .

Life

Batbie taught law at the universities of Dijon and Toulouse from 1852 , and in Paris from 1857 . Elected to the National Assembly on February 8, 1871, he took his seat in the center-right as one of the most influential members of the monarchical party. Since 1872 he had been at the head of the group that Adolphe Thiers wanted to force to take over the conservative program or to resign. In the cabinet of Albert de Broglie (May 25 to November 26, 1873) he was Minister for Education, Culture and Art. From 1876 until his death he was Senator von Gers . From 1885 he was also a member of the Académie des sciences morales et politiques .
