history

The bay window of the residence

Today's castle was originally a manor owned by Rein Abbey . In 1385 Friedrich the Wagerspacher came into possession of the estate. According to an inscription, the authenticity of which is doubted, the actual castle was built in 1579 by Abbot Georg Freiseisen von Rein. In the following years it came to rule Eggenberg . In 1740 Johann Ernst Karl von Ortenhofen handed over the property to his heirs. There were many changes of ownership before the property came to the Rittmeister Johann Leiningen-Westerburg in 1916. Among other things, he had it renovated. In 1973 the roof was expanded.

description

Today's castle is a hook-shaped, two-story building with a hipped roof and a smooth, red-painted facade. The crooked gables of the southern wing of the building probably date from the 17th century. The building also has a small polygonal bay window that can be dated to the time of construction, as well as several wrought-iron window grilles from the 17th and later 18th centuries. The two-story arcades on the garden side were added in 1916. The thickness of the walls on the ground floor is between 80 and 85 centimeters. There are also several profiled wooden beam ceilings inside.
