Ansomardi ( pseudonym for Peäro August Pitka ; born August 14, jul. / August 26, 1866 greg. In Jalgsema, then community Võhmuta today Landsgemeinde Järva-Jaani , county Järva , Estonia , † July 12 jul. / July 25, 1915 Greg. (?) on the Narew River , Poland ) was an Estonian writer.

life and work

Peäro August Pitka volunteered in the Russian Army in 1887. From 1889 to 1891 he received his military training in Saint Petersburg . He then worked as an officer in numerous tsarist units. In 1915 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel. Pitka fell into the hands of German troops near Łomża in July 1915 during the First World War . Since then he has been considered lost.

In Estonia and Livonia , Pitka was known as a writer under his pseudonym Ansomardi , which he acquired after the name of his father's estate. In 1897 he made his debut in the Postimees newspaper . He went public with short prose, plays and stories for children. The life of a soldier often played a role in his works. During his time in Estonia he lived in Kiltsi , where most of his works were created.

Ansomardi was the older brother of the Estonian military Johan Pitka (1872-1944).
