The Antarctic Marble Perch ( Notothenia rossii ) is an Antarctic cod from the order Antarctic fish that is distributed between southern New Zealand and the sub-Antarctic seas and whose preferred habitat are rocky reefs . So far, a maximum length of 92 centimeters, a weight of 10 kilograms and a maximum age of 16 years have been determined.

Young Antarctic Marble Bass stay closer to the surface, especially in the shallow fjord bays . Yearlings feed mainly on mesozooplankton in water depths between 5 and 15 meters. Immature and mature fish live in the Benthal , but stay in shallower waters at a depth of 10 to 20 meters. Sexually mature fish leave the fjords and stay in the area of the continental shelf .

As a sub-Antarctic species, the Antarctic Marble Bass shows special adaptations to low water temperatures, such as anti-freezing proteins in the blood. Like all members of the family, the Antarctic Marble Bass does not have a swim bladder ; buoyancy is mainly generated by fatty tissue .
