Anthony Ashley Cooper, 2nd Earl of Shaftesbury ( January 6, 1652 - November 10, 1699 ) was an English peer and politician .
He was the second-born son of Anthony Ashley Cooper, 1st Earl of Shaftesbury and the Lady Frances Cecil († 1654), daughter of David Cecil, 3rd Earl of Exeter . On September 22, 1669 he had married Lady Dorothy Manners, daughter of John Manners, 8th Earl of Rutland . He had three children with her:
- Lady Elizabeth Ashley Cooper († 1744) ⚭ James Harris; Parents of the scholar James Harris ;
