Anthony Kenny

Sir Anthony John Patrick Kenny (born March 16, 1931 in Liverpool ) is an English philosopher and historian of philosophy.

Life

Anthony Kenny was ordained a priest in Rome in 1955 . He received his Ph.D. in 1961. (Doctor of Philosophy) at Balliol College of University of Oxford , and was then a research assistant at the University of until 1963 Liverpool operates. At the same time he was a Catholic parish priest in Liverpool (1959–1963). He was then called to serve as a priest at the Pontifical Venerable English College in Rome . In 1963 he was made lay (and excommunicated in 1965 after his marriage to Nancy Gayley ). He has since considered himself an agnostic. In the following years he worked at various institutions and in various functions at Oxford University, first as a tutor , then as a lecturer and finally as a professor . From 1984 to 2001 he was Vice-Rector ( Pro-Vice Chancellor ) of this university, where he is now Emeritus is.

Honors

In 1992 Anthony Kenny was beaten by Queen Elizabeth II to the Knight Bachelor . He is a member of numerous national and international scientific academies and societies, including the American Philosophical Society since 1993 and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences since 2003 . From 1989 to 1993 he was President of the British Academy . From 2006 to 2009 he was President of the Royal Institute of Philosophy . Since 1991 he has been a member of the Academia Europaea .
