Anthony Kimmins (* 10. November 1901 in London Harrow , United Kingdom ; † 19th May 1964 in Hurstpierpoint , UK) was a British actor , film director , writer , playwright , screenwriter and film producer .

Live and act

Kimmins attended the Royal Navy College in Dartmouth before he decided to act as a stage actor and wrote his first plays at the same time. His works Chase the Parents and Chase the Ace were performed in 1934 and 1935, respectively. At this point, Kimmins had already been in front of the camera and for the first time wrote scripts and directed films. By the outbreak of World War II , Kimmins made a name for himself with lightweight comedies in which the pre-war star George Formby often played the leading role.

In 1940 he enlisted again in the Royal Navy and served there with the rank of captain. Shortly after the end of the war, Kimmins returned to film work and concentrated entirely on directing. In addition to comedies, he also staged dramatic material, in 1947/48 with the historical material Bonnie Prince Charlie also an extremely ambitious color film with David Niven in the title role and a respectable duration of around two hours. In 1956, Kimmins surprised his audience with the Australian boys' story Smiley , in which he appeared again as a total filmmaker. This production proved to be quite successful and led to a sequel the following year. With the military outfit The Amorous Prawn Kimmins ended his career in 1962.
