Anthophora balneorum is a bee from the family of Apidae .

features

The bees have a body length of 12 to 14 millimeters. The face of the females is black and occasionally brown haired. The back of the thorax and parts of the first tergite are hairy reddish brown. Otherwise, the thorax and the first three tergites are black, the fourth to sixth tergites more or less white haired. The splint brush (Scopa) is black. The cheek is as long as the third antennae is wide in the middle. The males have white markings on their faces. The thorax is hairy dorsally like the first two tergites red-brown, the tergites three to seven are whitish hairy, the hair on the front is mixed with dark hair. The tarsi on the middle pair of legs have short whitish hairs. As with the females, the cheeks are as long as the third antennae is wide in the middle. There is a pygidial plate on the seventh tergite .

Occurrence and way of life

The species is distributed from the western Mediterranean area to Italy and the Aosta Valley . It flies from mid-May to early August. The females create their nests in the ground. Pollen is only collected from adder heads ( Echium ). Cuckoo bees of the species are unknown.
