Gymnocalycium bruchii is a species of plant in the genus Gymnocalycium from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet bruchii honors the Argentine photographer and entomologist Carlos Bruch (1869–1943).
description
Gymnocalycium bruchii grows abundantly in sprouts and forms many-headed mats from dark green shoots that reach heights of up to 3.5 centimeters with a diameter of 6 centimeters. The roughly eight to 12 (-17) low, straight down ribs are rounded and humped. The one to three white or brownish central spines , which can occasionally be missing, are protruding. The twelve to 14 (up to 26) (rarely from seven) thin, bristle-like, glassy white radial spines are bent back and 2 to 6 millimeters long.
The delicate purple-pink to white often unisexual flowers are usually 3.5 to 5 centimeters long and have the same diameter. The pericarpel is short, dark brown-green and shows some light-edged scales. Stamens , styles and stigmas are white, the pollen is yellowish. The blue-green to whitish green fruits are spherical, pear-shaped or spindle-shaped. They are up to 1.5 centimeters long and 1.2 centimeters in diameter. The seeds are 1.2 to 1.4 mm long and more or less spherical.
