Amegilla quadrifasciata is a bee from the family of Apidae . Some German authors count the genus Amegilla to Anthophora and consequently call this species Anthophora quadrifasciata . Internationally, however, the genus Amegilla is recognized as a separate genus (e.g.).

features

The bees have a body length of 12 to 14 millimeters (females) or 12 to 15 millimeters (males). The females are hairy reddish brown dorsally on the thorax , the tergites are hairy black. The face has a whitish mark. The first to fourth tergite have white bands on the rear edge. The splint brush (Scopa) is white, but the front edge is black. The heel phalanx (metatarsus) on the hind legs is hairy black. The third antenna segment is about as long as the following three segments together. The claw members lack the pulvillus . The males resemble the females. On the seventh tergite they have two small teeth at the end, the heel link of the hind legs is hairy black.

Occurrence and way of life

The species is common in southern, central and eastern Europe. It used to be widespread in Germany, there is currently a document from Germany (1996, Baden-Württemberg). Historical reports from Austria and Switzerland.

It flies from late June to early September. The females create their nests in the ground. Pollen is collected from different plant families. The cuckoo bee of the species is Thyreus histrionicus .
