Anthophora squammulosa is a bee from the family of real bees (Apidae).

Occurrence and way of life

The species is widespread in Nicaragua , and occurs particularly in the Masaya volcano in particular density. The females create their nests there in the ground at a depth of about 30 cm. How the bees cope with the high levels of sulfur dioxide and the resulting acid rain that emanates from the volcano has not yet been researched. Pollen is collected almost exclusively from the white flowers of Melanthera nivea .
