The anthraco (Mischstaubpneumokoniose) is a disease of the lungs and is one of the so-called pneumoconiosis (black lung disease). It is caused by inhaling dust containing quartz and carbon , as it occurs almost exclusively in coal mining.

Pathophysiology

While soot-containing dust particles without quartz content can be absorbed by macrophages and transported away with the sputum or deposited in the lymph system, in the interstitium or the pleura , mixed dusts containing quartz are fibrogenic . Typical of the disease is a perivascular granuloma formation with rounded hyaline stratification (hyaline fibrosis), which is often surrounded by a fringe of migrating dust macrophages.
