Anthribus nebulosus is a beetle from the family of anthribidae (Anthribidae). It is also known as the common scale insect weevil or gray scale insect weevil .

features

The beetles are 1.5–4 mm long. The dark brown to black beetles are covered with gray-white and brown hairs. The pronotum has four indistinct light spots. The pronotum base has two distinct bays. The wing covers have a grid-shaped pattern of spots made of elongated spots. The odd spaces are completely light in some cases.

distribution

The species is widespread in Europe. They occur in the north as far as Fennoscandinavia (southern Norway, northern Sweden, central Finland). The species is also represented in England. In the east the occurrence extends to Siberia . In Central Europe, it is the most common type of family. The beetle species was introduced in North America. There it has established itself in the northeast ( New England ).

Way of life

The beetles can be found on various deciduous and coniferous trees , especially on spruce ( Picea ). The larvae live under the shells of cup scale insects . They feed u. a. from the eggs of the Great Spruce whisker scale ( Physokermes piceae ). The pupation takes place-female scale insect under the shield of the dead. The beetles are mainly observed in the spring months from April to June. The polyphagous beetles hibernate under loose tree bark.
