The Antigua Caribbean Liberation Movement (ACLM) was a political party from Antigua and Barbuda .
History and political orientation
The left-wing party came into being in 1968 at the instigation of Tim Hector , who was chairman of the Progressive Labor Movement at the time. The movement's ideology went back to CLR James. It had close ties to the Cuban Communist Party and other left-wing groups in the Caribbean, such as the New Jewel Movement in Grenada . She campaigned for the establishment of a Caribbean federation and supported the fight against apartheid . In the 1980 general election , the party offered 9 candidates and won 1.18% of the vote. TheIn the 1989 general election , the party had 16 candidates who won 1.96% of the votes. The party was never able to win a seat in the House of Representatives from Antigua and Barbuda . In 1992 the ACLM merged with the Progressive Labor Movement and the United National Democratic Party in the newly founded United Progressive Party .
