Antiochus XIII.
Antiochus XIII. Philadelphos Asiatikos (* 85 BC , † 64 BC ) was a son of the Seleucid king Antiochus X. Eusebes and the Egyptian princess Cleopatra Selene .
After Tigranes II of Armenia had conquered Syria , Cleopatra traveled around 75 BC. BC to Rome to have their son recognized as King of Egypt, but was unsuccessful. She was probably kidnapped and killed by Tigranes, Antiochus XIII. but then after Tigranes' defeat by Lucullus in 69 BC. BC made the Roman client king in Syria. About 66 BC He was expelled by Philip II Philorhomaios with Arab help and was taken prisoner by Samsigeramos , the ruler of Emesa . After his release he was able to rule again for a short time before Pompey deposed him and 64 BC. Was killed by Samsigeramos. His death is often given as the end of the Seleucid dynasty, but in fact Philip II survived him for a short time.
