Antoine Gambi

Antoine Gambi is a politician and general of the Central African Republic .

Life

Gambi, who comes from the Yakoma tribe , completed a military career and rose on January 15, 2002 in the rank of Colonel as the successor to the late General Ernest Betibangui to Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces ( Forces Armées Centrafricaines ). He was later promoted to division general and a supporter of President François Bozizé, who came to power in a military coup on March 15, 2003 . Nevertheless, on July 5, 2006, he was deposed by the President as Chief of the General Staff because of ongoing fighting in the northeast of the country. Successor as chief of staff was Brigadier General Jules Bernard Ouande , the current Minister of National Security.

Gambi later became adviser to the President on defense matters and coordinator of the Commission Nationale de lutte contre la Prolifération des armes légères, pour le Désarmement et la Réinsertion (CNPDR) and took on this role in Brussels in October 2007 at a round table with other states and multinational groups Partners on the situation in the Central African Republic. In addition, in December 2008 in Oslo he was one of the signatories of the Convention on the Prohibition of Cluster Munitions .

On January 19, 2009, he was appointed Minister for Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and Francophonie by President Bozizé in the cabinet of Prime Minister Faustin Archange Touadéra .
