Antoine Joseph Jobin

Antoine Joseph Jobin (* 1889 in Boston ; † 1972 ) was an American Romanist of Canadian origin.

life and work

Jobin came from a French-Canadian family who immigrated from Québec . He studied at Harvard University and the University of Michigan . He worked as a translator and interpreter and served in the US Army in France, most recently in Versailles as an interpreter for General Stanley H. Ford (1877-1954). In 1920 he went to the University of Michigan, first as an instructor for French and Spanish, from 1926 as Assistant Professor of French, from 1946 as Associate Professor. He received his doctorate in 1935 at the same university with the thesis The regional literature of French Canada (published by T. Visages littéraires du Canada français , Montreal 1941). In 1957 he retired.
