Anton Estermann

Anton Estermann (born December 14, 1890 in Urfahr , † January 18, 1970 in Linz ) was an Austrian architect and politician .

Live and act

Anton Estermann graduated from the Linz State High School and was a former classmate of Adolf Hitler . From 1909 to 1913 he studied at the civil engineering school in Prague . From 1914 to 1918 he was an officer (first lieutenant) in the First World War. From 1919 to 1922 he studied at Graz University of Technology , after which he worked in architectural offices in Linz, Graz , Berlin and Bucharest . From 1927 to 1929 he ran his own architecture and engineering office together with Armin Sturmberger .

After the " Anschluss of Austria " he joined the NSDAP and in June 1938, after the dismissal of his predecessor Curt Kühne, he became Linz City Planning Director. In September 1939 he became an alderman (city council) and in July 1941 mayor of Linz. Estermann was SA-Sturmbannführer since 1939. From 1944 to 1945 he was an honorary councilor for construction in Linz.

After the end of World War II, he was added to the Upper Austria war criminals list in 1945 and a denazification process was initiated against him. In 1949 he was pardoned by the Federal President and he resumed his work as a freelance architect.
