Anton Furst

Anthony Francis Furst (born May 6, 1944 in Wendons Ambo , Great Britain , † November 24, 1991 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American film designer. For his design of the 1989 film Batman , Furst was awarded an Oscar in 1990 for "best production design".

Furst attended the Royal College of Art in London. Before he started creating set designs for feature films, he made a name for himself in the international music scene with the introduction of dramatic laser and other lighting effects, including at The Who . He later made the films The Time of the Wolves (1984), Full Metal Jacket (1987), Batman (1989) and Time of Awakening (1990). (1986) he developed a set design for DreamRunner , a feature film that is part of the PHENOMENA project. Furst was awarded an Oscar for his vision of Batman's hometown Gotham City .

In 1991, Furst committed suicide after his relationship with actress Beverly D'Angelo failed. He jumped to his death from the 8th floor of a parking garage in Los Angeles.
