Anton Kern (librarian)

Anton Kern (born August 1, 1883 in Eichfeld (Styria) , † October 12, 1956 in Graz ) was an Austrian librarian and library scientist .

Anton Kern passed his matriculation examination in Graz in 1903 and studied history, geography and art history. In 1909 he received his doctorate from the University of Graz. From 1914 to 1918 he did military service. In 1921 he got a job at the University Library in Graz . In 1940 he completed his habilitation in library science and was appointed lecturer at the University of Graz the following year . From 1941 to 1943 he ran the library on behalf of the recruited director Franz Gosch . Kern was retired in 1949. In 1951 he received the title of associate professor.

Anton Kern's life's work was the indexing of the medieval manuscripts of the Graz University Library.
