Anton Leikam

Anton Leikam (born May 17, 1943 in Lölling in Carinthia) is an Austrian state official and former politician ( SPÖ ). Between 1986 and 2002 he was a member of the National Council .

education and profession

Leikam attended compulsory school from 1949 to 1957 and worked in various companies in the St. Veit an der Glan district. He did military service in 1963 and was a miner at VOEST-Alpine in Hüttenberg and from 1964 to 1967 an employee of the Free Trade Association in Klagenfurt. From 1967 he was an official of the Carinthian provincial government.

politics

Leikam represented the SPÖ in the Carinthian state parliament from 1979 to 1986 and was district party chairman of the SPÖ Sankt Veit an der Glan in 1990. He was also a member of the SPÖ federal party executive committee from 1997 and vice-president of the Working Group for Sport and Physical Culture in Austria (ASKÖ) Carinthia from 1977 to 1996 . Leikam has been President of the ASKÖ Carinthia since 1996 and Vice President of the Austrian Ski Association since 1996 .

Leikam was a member of the National Council from December 17, 1986 to June 7, 2002 and chairman of the committee for internal affairs from 1999 to 2002. After Leikam had caused a traffic accident with property damage at a rate of 2.0 per thousand in 2002, he was forced to resign from his seat on the National Council.

Private

Leikam lives with his wife in Fiming near the Längsee . His son Günter Leikam is also active as a politician and in the ASKÖ.
