Anton Mayer (mathematician)
Anton E. Mayer (born October 5, 1903 in Vienna , † November 3, 1942 in Lancaster , United Kingdom ) was an Austrian mathematician.
Mayer's father was the editor of the Neue Freie Presse in Vienna. Mayer attended the Theresian Academy in Vienna and initially studied mechanical engineering at the Vienna University of Technology with a diploma in 1928. He received his doctorate in 1930 at the Vienna University of Technology ( The Kinematic Illustration ) and again in 1936 at the University of Vienna (An overconvexity). 1930 to 1938 he was assistant at the chair for descriptive geometry at the TH Vienna. He was on the way to his habilitation (habilitation thesis: Koppelkurven with three peaks and special Koppelkurvenbüsche ) and had already successfully given a trial lecture when he was released as a Jew after the annexation of Austria and had to emigrate to England. He was temporarily interned there and only found a job that matched his qualifications after a long period of time. He died in London in 1942.
He dealt with kinematic geometry, with application to gears, screws and other machine elements , for example with uniform thicknesses . Most recently he published on Farey series .
