Anton Pausch (* 1938 near Miskolc in Hungary ) is a former German CDU local politician. From 1990 to 1997 he was mayor and from 1997 to 2001 mayor of the city of Wurzen .

Career

After finishing school, he learned the trade of bricklayer and later qualified as a railway engineer. He has been at home in Wurzen since 1963 - he worked as a civil engineering engineer in the Wurzen section of the Leipzig construction combine.

Local politics in Wurzen

Before the Peaceful Revolution of 1989–1990, Pausch had already been a CDU member in the city council for a number of years, where he was involved in urban construction. In the local election on May 7, 1989 , which was controversial because of the GDR-wide election fraud , Pausch ran again for the unified list and remained chairman of the Wurzen city council.

From June 1, 1990 he acted as mayor. In 1994, Pausch faced the new direct election for the electoral office with a seven-year term - he won the runoff election against the SPD candidate Peter Konheiser with 50.9 percent and was confirmed as the directly elected mayor until 2001.

The Saxon municipal code passed by the Saxon state parliament in 1993 bundled the office of the mayor as head of the city administration with the office of the chairman of the municipal council , which was previously known as the city council. This should strengthen the power of mayors and speed up decision-making processes.

After Wurzen had lost its status as a district town in 1994, the city administration, headed by Anton Pausch, strove for the status of "large district town". This goal was achieved on April 1, 1997 - and the mayor became the mayor.

In 2001 he decided not to run again. The citizens of Wurzens elected Jürgen Schmidt as the new mayor.
