Jürgen Schmidt (born February 15, 1951 in Großzschepa ) is a former German CDU local politician. From 1994 he was an alderman of the Wurzen city administration and from 2001 to 2008 Lord Mayor of the city of Wurzen .

Career

After graduating from high school and as a skilled worker as an agricultural engineer from 1965 to 1969, Jürgen Schmidt studied and completed his studies with the academic degree of a diploma in agricultural education. He received his doctorate in 1986 in Berlin as Dr. agr. in the field of agricultural economics . Until 1991 he worked for agriculture.

He then worked for agrochemical companies in Leipzig and for the exhibition company agra in Markkleeberg , followed by working as an editor and reporter for a local newspaper and managing director of a VW car dealership.

In 1994 Schmidt made his full-time entry into local politics: He became an alderman of the Wurzen city administration. In 2001 Jürgen Schmidt succeeded Anton Pausch - the citizens of Wurz elected him Lord Mayor of Wurzen.

In 2008, Schmidt missed the desired re-election - he had to hand over his office to Jörg Röglin, who was not a party to the party .

Jürgen Schmidt is the chairman of the Wurzener History and Old Town Association.

Private

Jürgen Schmidt is married to Regina Schmidt; the couple has two grown sons.
