Anton Rathke
Anton Rathke (born January 12, 1888 ; † July 1, 1945 ) was a lieutenant general in the Wehrmacht .
As commander, Rathke helped to save the city of Halle an der Saale from destruction by the US Army in 1945. He and his units left the city on April 19, 1945.
Rathke was awarded the German Cross in Gold .
