Anton Wilhelm Friedrich Koch

Anton Wilhelm Friedrich Koch (born July 29, 1755 in Jena ; † February 2, 1820 there ) was a German entrepreneur and founder of what would later become the Koch banking house in Jena.

Life

The son of Jena city governor Heinrich Koch (1723–1775) and the Maria dancer came back to Jena in 1776 after completing his business apprenticeship. In 1778 he was accepted into the Kramerinnung and set up a material store in Saalgasse. A year later he was awarded the title of court factor. The expansion of his range of goods (tobacco, cigars, chocolate, liqueurs) also led to the establishment of a porcelain factory in 1803. His son Theodor (1786–1863) became a partner in the company “W. Koch & Sohn ”, which he named“ W. Koch junior ”took over completely. His involvement in the city was multifaceted: from 1798 he supervised the brewing system, from 1812 the fire extinguishing system. In addition, he became a council member in 1810 and a member of the police commission in 1816. Koch last owned seven houses, numerous properties and loaned the city interest-free money.
