Life

Caponnetto began his professional career as an Italian judge in 1954. His career took a turn when he was transferred to Palermo after the assassination attempt on Rocco Chinnici in 1983 . In the fight against terrorism , Caponnetto took over the strategy of Giancarlo Caselli . Accordingly, he founded a pool, ie a group of public prosecutors who should devote all their energy to fighting the mafia . This pool consisted of Giovanni Falcone , Paolo Borsellino , Gioacchino Natoli , Giuseppe Di Lello and Leonardo Guarnotta. The Caponnetto-led pool prepared the great trial of the 1990s against the Mafia. She relied mainly on the statements of the former mafioso and key witness ( pentito ) Tommaso Buscetta .

Caponnetto ended his career in 1990. After the assassinations of Giovanni Falcone on May 23, 1992 and Paolo Borsellino on July 19, 1992, Caponnetto continued to dedicate his life to the fight against illegality. In 1993 he ran for the party group " La Rete " in the local elections in Palermo and became President of the City Council. At the end of his life, a series of lectures took him across Italy to schools. He described his fight against the Mafia and the Sicilian Cosa Nostra to the young people .
