Antonio Lombardo (sculptor)

Antonio Lombardo (* around 1458 in Venice , † 1516 in Ferrara ) was a Venetian sculptor .

Lombardo was the son of the builder Pietro Lombardo . The stonemason and sculptor Tullio Lombardo was his brother. He worked mainly with the father and brother. His completely independent works are therefore rare, such as the altar of the Zen chapel in the Basilica di San Marco in Venice, commissioned in 1504, and the relief with the miracle of the speaking baby Jesus (1505) in the Basilica of St. Anthony in Padua .

For the marble room ( Camerino Di Marmi ) of the palace of Alfonso d'Este , Duke of Ferrara , he created an intricate sculptural composition,

Among other things, he created The Birth of Minerva , the goddess of wisdom.
