Antonio Ormanni (born December 27, 1457 in Siena , † 1519 ibid) also Antonio di Giacomo Ormanni , was a craftsman known in Siena who was known and valued for the quality of his work. The Ormanni worked bronze, copper and iron in Siena and were trained coppersmiths.

Life

In 1493, 1504 and 1516 he cast guns of various calibers for the Republic.

In 1489 he cast two angel figures for the high altar of the cathedral , together with a grille for viewing into the lower church in the cathedral of Siena .

His most famous work are the two bronze doors for the entrance to the Piccolomini library . He is said to have designed the doors of the Church of San Paolo in 1512 (today destroyed) and the doors to the Loggia della Mercanzia.

Antonio had also cast a bronze gate to the Bichi Chapel in Sant'Agostino , which was lost when this church was modernized.

Numerous sculptors ( Giacomo Cozzarelli , Carlo Galetti and others) learned the art of casting from him. His son Andrea was also a sculptor.

Antonio died around 1519, leaving behind his wife Sibilla di Francesco Casini and four sons.
