Antonio Tauriello
Antonio Luis Tauriello (born March 20, 1931 in Buenos Aires ; † April 20, 2011 there ) was an Argentine composer, conductor and pianist.
Tauriello studied piano with Walter Gieseking and Raúl Seivak and composition with Alberto Ginastera . He directed contemporary music ensembles, conducted concerts and opera performances at the Teatro Colón , to whose cuerpo de maestros internos he belonged from 1957 to 1993, and performed as a conductor in the USA. In 1951 his first work, the Obertura Sinfónica , was premiered under the direction of Washington Castro .
From 1969 to 1972 Tauriello headed the opera department at the Juilliard School of Music in New York. He also directed the Washington Symphony Orchestra at the Inter-American Music Festivals. From 1972 to 1985 he was the assistant musical director of the Lyric Opera of Chicago .
As a composer, Tauriello belongs to the Latin American avant-garde. He composed operas, orchestral works and chamber music in various line-ups.
The Fundacion Konex awarded him an honorary diploma as a composer in 1989 and 1999. In 1994 he received the Gran Premio a la Cultura . In 2004 the Senado de la Nación Argentina awarded him an honorary diploma for his services to culture. He was a member of the Academia Nacional de Bellas Artes .
