Antonios Alevizopoulos
Antonios Alevizopoulos ( Greek Αντώνιος Αλεβιζόπουλος ; * 1931 in Greece ; † May 3, 1996 ibid) was an archpriest of the autocephalous Orthodox Church of Greece and priest of the Greek Orthodox metropolis of Germany .
Life
Born in Greece, Antonios Alevizopoulos decided to become a Greek Orthodox priest. During his studies in Orthodox theology he stayed in Germany and received his doctorate in philosophy. In 1961 Alevizopoulos met his German wife in Berlin and in 1962 became the first Greek Orthodox priest to receive the sacrament of ordination in Germany . From then on Alevizopoulos acted as pastor in the Greek Orthodox metropolis of Germany . As a parish deacon he was responsible for the orthodox parish life of the Greeks in Germany .
His further main activity was dealing with sects and pareligious groups, which occupied him until his death. In this regard, Alevizopoulos initially founded a Greek parents' initiative in Germany. In 1983 Alevizopoulos co-founded the consultation of regional church commissioners for sects and ideology (KLB) . Alevizopoulos was very involved in Christian ecumenism . The "Berliner Dialog" was founded on the basis of his collaboration.
As an excellent apologist Antonios Alevizopoulos was active in the Pan-Orthodox movement , there as an organizer of pan-Orthodox conferences for representatives for sects and questions about par-religious groups. In Greece, he was particularly busy as a sect representative of the Greek Orthodox Church in the dispute with the association KEFE ("Center for Applied Philosophy"), a sub-organization of Scientology .
