Antti-Pekka Auvinen (born January 1, 1975 ) is a former Finnish telemarker and ski racer .

Career

Auvinen started out as an international alpine ski racer in 1995 and competed in FIS races in Scandinavia. Despite good results in the meantime, he missed the leap into the alpine national team. He made his last start in the alpine area at the Finnish Championships in 1996 in Yllästunturi . Despite four top 10 placements in giant slalom and Super G, he clearly missed medal successes. Since a place in the national team remained unlikely, he withdrew from the international sports business for the time being.

In 1996 Antti-Pekka Auvinen switched to telemark skiing. In 2016-2001 he reached 9 national championships and several top 3 placements at the world championship. He achieved his highest performance in 2001 in Val Thorens, France, where he won gold in the grand slalom and silver in the classic. He officially gave up his racing career in 2001, but in 2011, after a 10-year break, he reached the World Cup final and the World Championship in Norway in the Telemark World Cup in Hafjell . Although he did not score any points, he was able to secure a starting position at the following Telemark World Championship in 2011 in Rjukan , where he was 50th in the giant slalom, 45th in the classic race and 43rd in the sprint.
