Anva

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Anva was a Danish department store chain that existed from 1950 to 1987 and was owned by Denmark's consumer association FDB.

history

The Scala building was the seat of the Anva branch in Copenhagen from 1958 to 1987 .

Anva (short for An delsforeningens Va rehus = cooperative department store) was founded in 1950. The first branch was in the Islands Brygge district of Copenhagen on Thorshavnsgade on the corner of Njalsgade. In 1958, Anva was reopened on a larger area in the Scala building ( Scalabygningen in Danish ) at Vesterbrogade 2. This made Anva very central: Copenhagen Central Station , Rådhuspladsen and Tivoli were in the immediate vicinity .

Anva aimed to offer goods for the whole family at affordable prices. At the end of the 1970s, the concept was changed and relied on branded goods and other expensive products. After that, sales dropped and in 1987 Anva was forced to close. The Scala building was demolished in 2012 after several changes of ownership.

Branches

In addition to the Copenhagen office, Anva had branches in Esbjerg , Hjørring and Aalborg .
