AnyDesk is a remote maintenance software developed by AnyDesk Software GmbH in Stuttgart . AnyDesk enables remote access between computers with different operating systems such as Windows , Linux or macOS .

history

AnyDesk GmbH was founded in Stuttgart in 2014 by four former TeamViewer employees who had left the company due to technical deficits. AnyDesk is based on the DeskRT video codec developed by philandro Software GmbH. The first final version of AnyDesk was published in 2015 for Windows. Linux and macOS versions followed in 2016. A version for iOS and Android devices has also been available since February 8, 2017 .

In May 2018, AnyDesk received an investment of 6.5 million euros in a Series A financing round, led by the private equity company EQT Ventures . The Business Angels Chris Hitchen and Andreas Burike also invested there.

Licenses

AnyDesk is sold by subscription . An entry-level version is free for private use. Various licenses are available for use in a commercial environment.

Functions

  • Remote access for various platforms (Windows, Linux, macOS, iOS, Android, Raspberry Pi, FreeBSD, ChromeOS) with access via a simple alphanumeric code and confirmation by the user
  • Direct connection on the same network with low latency
  • Unattended access
  • Remote print
  • Auto-Discovery (automatic lookup in the local network)
  • Chat function
  • Encrypted connections
  • REST interface (Professional and Enterprise license only)
  • Custom clients (Professional and Enterprise license only)
  • Session log (Professional and Enterprise license only)
  • Own namespace (in the Professional license for an extra charge; in the Enterprise license free of charge)

safety

AnyDesk uses TLS 1.2 encryption with Authenticated Encryption. All connections between AnyDesk clients are encrypted with at least AES-128 .

The encryption is contemporary and is generally considered to be secure.

As with other remote desktop applications, there have been reports that AnyDesk is being used by fraudsters and hackers, including for ransomware attacks and so-called technical support scams , attempted fraud in which - usually by telephone - it is claimed provide a legitimate technical support service. However, this has nothing to do with the security of the connection or the software itself.
