Anzani Moteurs d'Aviation was a French engine manufacturer that was based in Courbevoie near Paris from 1907 to 1927 .
history
The Italian Alessandro Anzani , who had been employed by the motorcycle manufacturer Buchet in Paris since 1900 , set up his own engine construction company in Paris in 1907. He initially only had three employees who built engines while designing a hydrofoil powered by one of his engines and a propeller.
The company supplied an engine to Enrico Forlanini and developed the engines further into an air-cooled three-cylinder radial engine , which was ideal for the newly emerging aircraft . One of the early engines, a 25 hp W3, was delivered to Louis Blériot , who used it on his successful crossing of the English Channel in 1909.
The demand for aircraft engines grew steadily, so in 1911 the company moved to Courbevoie in the Paris region. In the same year the Italian branch Alessandro Anzani & Co. in Novara was added, in 1912 the British branch British Anzani Motor Company in London . Another factory, Fabbrica Motori Anzani , opened in Monza , also in Italy, in 1914 .
In 1920 Anzani turned to motorsport . He had a small car built with one of his 750 cc two-cylinder engines. A cycle car with a 1098 cc engine was also made in Italy .
On the occasion of his 50th birthday in 1927, Alessandro Anzani sold his factories in Courbevoie, London and Novara. He only kept the factory in Monza for sentimental reasons. Natale Baccanti became managing director there.
