Alessandro Anzani (born December 5, 1877 in Milan , † July 24, 1956 in Merville-Franceville-Plage ) was an Italian engineer and racing driver . In particular, Anzani became known for its W engine , manufactured in 1909 , which Louis Blériot used in 1909 to be the first to cross the English Channel in an airplane.

In his youth, Anzani was initially active as a cyclist, then switched to the motorcycle he had just developed and became world champion. He also drove as a pacemaker in standing races and led a. a. the French standing master Henri Contenet .

After training as a technician, Anzani went to France. At the beginning of the century he took a position at the Paris motorcycle manufacturer Buchet as an employee and factory driver. In 1907 he set up his own engine production Anzani Moteurs d'Aviation in Courbevoie . After the success of Blériot, business was excellent. In Milan was Fabbrica Motori Anzani founded. With the advent of rotary engines , Anzani concentrated again on the manufacture of motorcycle engines, but without stopping aircraft engine production. The British Anzani Motor Company was founded in England . In the 1920s, Anzani also briefly manufactured cycle cars.
