The Aper Geestrand is a natural space unit of the fifth order (No. 603.00). It is part of the Oldenburger Geest (No. 603.0 / No. 603), part of the East Frisian-Oldenburg Geest (No. 60), which is part of the large natural region of the Central North German Lowlands .

location

The Aper Geestrand is the westernmost branch of the Oldenburg Geest. It includes the places Augustfehn , Apen and Ocholt . In the north-west, the Aper Geestrand is bounded by the Lengener Moor , the southernmost branch of the natural spatial unity of the East Frisian Central Moors . In the north and east of Aper Geestrand borders the natural spatial unity of the also for Oldenburg Geest belonging Ammer country and on the south by the Hunte-Leda Moorniederung belonging physiographic units of Nordloher Moores and Find Country Moores .

Natural overview

The Aper Geestrand is characterized by sandy soils that rise only slightly from the terrain level of the neighboring lowlands <?> . Exceptions are individual former drift sand areas. On this sandy subsoil, podsole predominate as soils , which are gleyed in low-lying areas . The areas of the Aper Geestrand, originally bearing alder forest, are now predominantly used as grassland for agriculture. High groundwater levels make drainage of the fields and an extensive drainage network necessary.
