Aphareus (son of Perieres)
Aphareus ( Greek Ἀφαρεύς ) is the son of Perieres and Gorgophone in Greek mythology .
He ruled Messenia with his brother Leukippus . After his father's death, Gorgophone married Oibalos , King of Sparta . Aphareus married the couple's daughter, his half-sister Arene , after whom he named a city. With her he had two children: the twins Lynkeus and Idas (apharids).
Aphareus gave his distant nephew Neleus (son of Tire and great-grandson of Aphareus' grandfather Aiolos ) the coast to rule. After the death of his sons he chose him as his successor.
