Tyro

Tyro ( Greek  Τυρώ ) is in Greek mythology the daughter of Elis King Salmoneus and Alkidike . She was the wife of Cretheus , the founder of Iolkos , and bore him three sons, Aison , Pheres and Amythaon .

Before the marriage, however, Tyro secretly loved the river god Enipeus . In order to seduce them, Poseidon took the form of Enipeus and begat the twins Pelias and Neleus with the deceived Tyro . After the poetics of Aristotle she put the child in a boat made of; they were found and raised by a horse herdsman. According to another version, she abandoned the children on top of a mountain and they were raised by a virgin.

Sophocles wrote a tragedy on the fate of Tire.
